About Us
Through delegation from the Sheriff of Victoria, Sheriff's officers execute civil and criminal warrants issued by Victorian and federal courts and enforce sanctions against those who do not comply with court orders. The Sheriff's service delivery system is comprised of the Sheriff of Victoria, Sheriff's Office Victoria (SOV) and Sheriff's officers based in regional offices across Victoria. Sheriff's officers are part of a ‘One Justice” service delivery model in which the community can access the department's services at regional Justice Service Centres as required.
Justice Aboriginal Liaison Officers (JALOs) support the Department's objectives to improve justice outcomes for Aboriginal communities. The JALO will use their knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community to facilitate better outcomes for Aboriginal clients in addressing their outstanding infringement matters (including infringement fines and warrants).
About the Role
As the Justice Aboriginal Liaison Officer, you will work to build relationships, foster links and enhance communication and interactions between Sheriff's officers and local Aboriginal communities. In the role, you will:

- Provide information, advice, referral and practical assistance to the Aboriginal community and individual community members on infringement fines, warrants and options available to clients to resolve outstanding infringement matters.
- Participate in the development and implementation of appropriate regional strategies to improve service delivery to regional Aboriginal communities
- Participate in community building and engagement activities according to regional business plans and contribute to enhancing the rights and responsibilities of Aboriginal community members
- Provide information to the RAJAC about issues impacting upon Aboriginal community members
- engage with other government and non-government agencies and establish good working relationships
- Reporting to Sheriff's Regional Manager (West) Robert Winfer.

This role is based in Laverton North, however regular travel to different locations in the region is required to service your client group.
About You

**To be successful in this role, you will have**:

- A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it
- A strong interest in community engagement
- The ability to establish trust and create relationships with various stakeholder groups
- Strong verbal communication with the ability to persuade in a tactful, respectful, yet firm manner
- Demonstrates an interest in and an appreciation of a range of different cultures and actively seeks to understand and effectively address the issues and views of others
- Current driver's license.
