The Australian Bureau of Meteorology's National Security and Space Program is seeking a motivated person who can enhance the Bureau's Defence relationship, seek opportunities to expand the support provided to the Department of Defence (Defence), and accelerate the transition of emergent products and services to Defence beneficiaries. The Defence Capability Lead will use their understanding of Defence to ensure that Bureau services are aligned to maximise value to end users.
The role requires a self-motivated and resilient person who can maintain an understanding of Defence needs and planning processes at all levels and align those needs to Bureau capabilities. The preferred applicant will be an individual who enjoys exploring what is possible, is energised by new opportunities, and has aptitude for communicating meteorology knowledge elicited from technical experts to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and Defence policy makers and capability acquisition specialists.
Technical knowledge of a physical science related to Bureau services is desirable but not essential. Understanding Defence needs and matching these to Bureau products and services will be pivotal in delivering outcomes in this role.
The Defence Capability Lead will represent the Bureau at Defence sector forums and will work closely with ADF members and Defence APS staff to realise the Bureau's contribution of adding value and impact across Defence.
To be successful you will have:
- Demonstrated experience to build partner and stakeholder relationships;
- Demonstrated communication and engagement skills;
- Demonstrated behaviour to add value to ADF and Australian Public Service (APS) outcomes by connecting Defence and the national security sector with highly skilled Bureau technical staff;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Defence capability and the Defence capability planning process;
- An ability to develop a knowledge of meteorology and how the Bureau produces products to support its customers; and
- The occupant of this position will also make contributions to a broad range of management and other enterprise-wide activities within the Bureau.
