**About the School of BioSciences**

This position presents an opportunity to join The University of Melbourne’s School of BioSciences. BioSciences houses 60 continuing academic staff, and more than 150 academic staff overall (including postdocs, and other research contingent staff) all working on the world’s top biological challenges - from climate change, biosecurity and pollution to reproductive health and food production. Collectively members of our School lead more than 240 research projects in the general areas of ecology, evolution, zoology, marine biology, genetics, plant science, genomics, biosecurity, biological pollution, reproductive biology and data science.

**About the Role**
The School of BioSciences is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative Academic to join the School of BioSciences at the University of Melbourne. The position is based in the Centre of Excellence for Biosecurity Risk Analysis (CEBRA) to work with a team of quantitative biosecurity experts on a review of the scientific and statistical principles that underpin Biosecurity Tasmania’s border intervention activities and policies. This position will be support the project leads, with activities including interviews, workshops, background reading, data handling, cleaning, manipulation, analysis, contextualising, reporting, as well as scenario development, model construction and testing.

The appointment will be at level A or B at the discretion of the selection committee.

Responsibilities include:

- Contributing to and conduct internationally competitive research and development, resulting in publications in high impact journals or impactful project outcomes. High level collaboration required
- Contributing to and publish scholarly outputs to a high academic standard in accordance with the research expectations of the University of Melbourne
- Contributing to teaching, training, scientific mentoring and supervision of students
- Actively participating at School meetings and contribute to planning activities or committee work to support capacity building in the School/discipline

**About You**
You will possess excellent organisational skills to meet deadlines and bring projects to a timely completion with limited supervision. You will display both written and oral communication skills in English and the ability to work co-operatively and positively in a multi-disciplinary research-based team environment and liaise with people from diverse backgrounds.

You will also have:

- Completion (or near) of a PhD in applied statistics, operations research, applied mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
- Demonstrated experience in problem solving, data processing and analysis, mathematical or statistical modelling
- Experience in assisting with supervision of students undertaking undergraduate or higher degree research projects is not essential but desirable
