**About the Role**
This is an exciting opportunity for a recent PhD graduate with experience in biochemistry or molecular biology to establish a career in crop science. The successful applicant will join a collaborative team at Australia's top University to play a lead role in an innovative approach to translate fundamental biological discoveries to improve grain quality in wheat.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Contributing significantly towards the research effort of the team and to develop your research expertise
- Assisting in the co-supervision and training of research students
- Preparing and communicating research outcomes for scientific conferences and research publications to a high academic standard
- Engaging with relevant professional and industry bodies and stakeholders to foster collaborative partnerships.
**Who We Are Looking For**
We’re looking for people who demonstrate a strong willingness to contribute to a diverse team, supporting junior researchers and looking for opportunities to develop their own career.
You will also have:
- A PhD in biochemistry or a related field
- Strong motivation to contribute to the research project
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated relevant
- Technical competence with one or more of the following: proteomics, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP), or similar.

This position presents an opportunity to join The University of Melbourne’s School of BioSciences. BioSciences houses 60 continuing academic staff, and more than 150 academic staff overall (including postdocs, and other research contingent staff) all working on the world’s top biological challenges - from climate change, biosecurity and pollution to reproductive health and food production. Collectively members of our School lead more than 240 research projects in the general areas of ecology, evolution, zoology, marine biology, genetics, plant science, genomics, biosecurity, biological pollution, reproductive biology and data science.
The Plant Cell Signalling lab, led by Mike Haydon, is in the School of BioSciences at The University of Melbourne. You will join an established team of researchers using genetics, chemical biology, molecular biology, biochemistry and systems analyses to understand mechanisms that control circadian rhythms with a particular focus on metabolic signalling and nutrient balance. Our vision is to leverage fundamental molecular understanding of how plants tell time to provide innovative gains in crop production.
