Job Details:
Cubic is seeking a Linux Administrator from Defence ICT professionals to support our work with the Australian Defence Simulation Training Centre, based in Canberra. This position will provide and support live, virtual and constructive (LVC) simulation systems within the Defence sector in the maintenance of a Standard Operating Environment (SOE) for servers and workstations. The Linux Administrator creates communications architecture, coordinates communications plans, configures and documents communications equipment and co-ordinates all aspects of the communications architecture. Experience working in a CIOG accredited network environment will be highly regarded.
- This position is only available to Australian citizens. Permanent Residents and working visa holders will not be considered, as the incumbent must hold a current Australian Defence Security Clearance at minimum NV1 level, with ability to upgrade to NV2_.

The Person:
Essential:
Appropriate qualifications in an IT related discipline (Diploma or collection of Certificates);
Understand the principles of service design with a basic understanding of ITIL service management practices and the ITIL service design model and;
Strong understanding of RedHat Enterprise Linux

the ability to:
work with limited supervision and assist in the delivery of structured training programmes, and deliver complex work support requirements; and

display personal and professional skills and ability to liaise with other areas of Defence.

deploy on military exercises / site surveys.

Desirable:
develop and build server architecture covering hardware, virtual and operating system layers;
develop and build client machines;
familiarity with RHEL software;RPM building

AD integration (RHEL/Windows)

Networking (routes, IPtables etc)

SOE development

familiarity with scripting (eg. Bash, Python, Perl).

familiarity with VMWare;
familiarity with Antivirus and;
familiarity with Microsoft software;
Personal Qualities and Experience

Applicants must demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills; specifically, have the ability to communicate complex LVC simulation issues and solutions to a non-technical training audience. An understanding of Australian Defence Force simulation operations and policies, and the Australian Defence Training and Experimentation Network (DTEN) will be highly regarded. Previous military experience is preferred.
