**Position overview**
We are recruiting three (3) Research Officers to work across a number of projects within Yardhura Walani, the National Centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Wellbeing Research. Yardhura Walani comprises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (and non-Indigenous) academic and professional staff and a vibrant study body; members of the Centre are enthusiastic about nurturing, mentoring and continuing to learn.
The Research Officer will work across one of a number of projects within Yardhura Walani, the National Centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Wellbeing Research. Yardhura Walani comprises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (and non-Indigenous) academic and professional staff and a vibrant study body; members of the Centre are enthusiastic about nurturing, mentoring and continuing to learn. The three program leads the positions will be supporting include:
- Prof Raymond Lovett, Culture & Wellbeing Program: This program of work conducts research that looks at how factors such as culture, language, belonging, racism, connection to Country and emotional wellbeing impacts the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Assoc. Prof. Raglan Maddox, Tobacco-Free Program: This program collaborates with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations to enhance understanding, inform best practices, and evaluate smoke
- and nicotine-free programs and policies. Its ultimate goal is to eradicate tobacco and nicotine-related death and disease.
- Assoc. Prof Lisa Whop, Cancer Prevention Team: this team focuses on important health priorities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people which includes cancer prevention, specifically cervical cancer elimination and lung cancer screening, within the context of settler colonial health systems and racism. The team’s work is Indigenous-led, solutions focused, methodologically diverse and operates in a safe and supportive environment.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and impactful team at Australia’s national university. One of ANU’s defining roles is to contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of Indigenous peoples. You will gain experience working in a world class institution in the collection, analysis and interpretation of data and dissemination of research findings. The new team member(s) will contribute to research that directly informs programs and policies of tangible benefit to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia. They will engage with leading scholars in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing research, as well as external community and policy partners.
**The Person**
The Research Officer(s) will report to a Senior Academic (Prof Raymond Lovett, Assoc. Prof Raglan Maddox, Assoc. Prof Lisa Whop) within Yardhura Walani. The role will include working with staff across the Centre as well as the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health (NCEPH), the University and external partners more broadly. The Research Officer(s) will be supported to develop and maintain trusted relationships with range of community organisations, governments, and non-government organisations to contribute to collaborative research and teaching. They will be expected to be organised, reliable and work with limited supervision. Some domestic travel may also be involved.

Yardhura Walani houses the largest number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and graduate students at ANU and is the largest, and arguably most impactful, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led and governed health and wellbeing research Centre in Australia.
