**Clinical** Educator - FiCare (Grade 4**)

**Fixed Term Position -** 12 month**

**3**8 hours per week**

The Royal Women’s Hospital is Australia’s first and largest specialist hospital dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of newborns and women of all ages. To join the Women’s is to be instrumental in forging progress towards health equity for women from ground-breaking research through to the bedside delivery of multi-disciplinary clinical care.

Creating exceptional experiences is at the heart of everything we do for our patients, their families, and our people across our specialised services within maternity, neonatal and women’s health.

Newborn, Intensive and Special Care (NICU) is a tertiary level nursery where specialist care is provided to approximately over 2000 premature and medically very sick babies per year (over 695 Intensive Care). The unit also has a key role in providing education and training for local, national and international health professionals and has an extensive research program.

The Women’s neonatal unit has been designed as one unit with both intensive and special care nursery pods; with a total of 62 cots. The NICU model of care is underpinned by several principles which have been developed to improve consistency and continuity of care and engagement of families.

The purpose of the Clinical Educator - Family Intergrated Care (FiCare) position is to lead the implementation of Family Integrated Care. FiCare will build on the current family centred model of care of consistency, continuity and engagement with families, whereby parents are supported to be the primary caregivers for their baby(s) in the Neonatal Service and an integral member of the multidisciplinary team caring for their baby.

Family Integrated Care (FICare) is a model of neonatal care which promotes a culture of partnership between families and staff; enabling and empowering parents to become confident, knowledgeable, and independent primary caregivers.

**Your contribution**

The Clinical Educator is pivotal in leading this cultural change. This position reports to the Director Neonatal Services (Nursing and Medical) and is responsible for the development and delivery of FiCare education and learning programs for both staff and parents. This role is pivotal in continued integration and improvement of the FiCare Model in Neonatal Services

The Educator (in collaboration with other relevant educators, clinical support nurses, and the leadership team) will identify and assist with the implementation of environmental adjustments that are required to ensure the continued success of the FiCare Model in Neonatal Services.

**Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following**:

- Develop, deliver and evaluate FiCare programs of learning within Neonatal Services for staff and parents of Neonatal infants.
- Identify and assist in the implementation of (in collaboration with other relevant educators, clinical support nurses, consumers with lived experience of NICU and the leadership team) environmental adjustments in Neonatal Services to optimize the positive impacts of the FiCare Model.
- Provide coaching to the Neontal team with respect to FiCare principles ensuring that each team member is equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively operate within a FiCare model.

**About you**

To be successful within this role you will need to have:

- AHPRA Registered Nurse
- Post graduate certificate/diploma/masters in neontal intensive care.
- Extensive experience in NICU in a tertiary centre.
