KSC 1 Highly developed counselling and therapeutic skills when working with primary and secondary-aged children

KSC 2 Demonstrated skills and knowledge relating to trauma symptomology and treatment, child/adolescence development, family systems, attachment, abuse/neglect, cumulative harm and neglect

KSC 3 Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships.

KSC 4 Experience in initiating, developing and implementing programs that foster resilience in children and young people and address their social, emotional and educational needs

KSC 5 Demonstrated ability to design and deliver professional learning on wellbeing topics for teachers, support staff and other relevant professionals, students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community to support student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement

KSC 6 Demonstrated experience developing and providing mediation, counselling, crisis intervention and other solution-focused intervention strategies

**Role**:
The Student Wellbeing Counsellor at Doveton College supports students aged between Prep and Year 9 with targeted therapeutic goals to assist their engagement and access to education.

The successful applicant must hold relevant qualifications to work in student wellbeing and will be required to provide counselling, support and guidance to students, parents, and staff regarding student wellbeing issues.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as this role involves working closely with all staff across the College, students, parents, and various external stakeholders.

The Student Wellbeing Counsellor (1.0 EFT) is part of the Wellbeing Team and reports to the Student Wellbeing Coordinator.

**Emotional and Mental Health Support** - Providing one-on-one counselling sessions to support students facing emotional, behavioural, or mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, or trauma, individual and group counselling.

**Social and Behaviour support **¿ social skill development, behaviour management, supporting students to improve their interpersonal skills, conflict resolution abilities, and peer relationships. Assisting in creating and implementing behaviour intervention plans for students, working collaboratively with teachers and parents

**Crisis intervention **¿ immediate support during crises, assessing risks and taking appropriate action. Connecting students and families to mental health professionals, social services, or other relevant agencies when necessary.

**Preventative programs - **include psychoeducation and school-wide programs, workshops, seminars, or classroom lessons on relevant issues.

**Collaboration with school staff **¿ secondary consult, professional development, team around the learner (TAL), multidisciplinary wellbeing team.

**Collaboration with families **¿ dyad sessions, parent meetings, collaborating with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to support students' overall well-being.

**Cultural competence**:

- Ensuring that practices are culturally sensitive and inclusive, recognizing the diverse backgrounds of students, including their ethnicity, socio-economic status, and individual learning needs. Providing additional support to students from marginalized groups to ensure they have equal opportunities and access.

**Responsibilities**:

- Ensure that case management is evidence-based and responsive to the needs of the young person and family
- Provide comprehensive, individualised, goal-focused care to students through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical interventions
- Work within a specialist multidisciplinary team environment
- Develop, implement and evaluate therapeutic goal plans
- Develop and implement behavioural programs to promote the development of cognitive and social skills
- Communicate/liaise with classroom teachers to identify strategies to benefit broader cohorts
- Facilitate small student groups to implement these programs, alongside targeted early intervention initiatives based on individual needs
- Continually update and review knowledge of various therapeutic techniques suitable for children and young people
- Function autonomously, carry a caseload of clients, participate in clinical review meetings and practice according to the policies and procedures of Doveton College
- Act as an advocate for students and a resource for parents
- Facilitate intensive support for students with specific social, emotional and educationa
