Student Wellbeing Counsellor - Part time

Ramlegh Park Primary School is located on 3.5 hectares of land in Clyde North. It was established in 2020 with 477 students starting in 2021 across all year levels and finishing off the year with over 540 students, and we currently have 1400 Students in 2025. The school has an Early Learning Centre next door and will work together through transition programs for the benefit of the students.

Ramlegh Park Primary School strives for high academic learning for all students and uses the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 which describes what students should learn from Foundation to Year 10. Ramlegh Park Primary School places a strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy with specialist subjects in Physical Education, Performing Arts, Visual Art, STEM and integrates AUSLAN as our language.

Student wellbeing is supported using School Wide Positive Behaviours, Zones of Regulation and RRRR which will be woven through all aspects of school life. We have a strong welfare team that includes a Speech Therapist, Student Counsellors and Youth Workers.

Overarching all aspects will be a culture of PLC with an expectation that all stakeholders will learn together for full implementation of a professional learning community approach. Integrated planning and delivery, reflecting on the impact of teaching practice, professional interaction and activation of student voice using evidence-based, high impact teaching strategies are all central to the educational vision. Students and Teachers will use technology for teaching and learning in a sustainable 21st Century educational environment.

Selection Criteria

1. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to maintain comprehensive notes on students

2. Demonstrated ability to provide individual counselling for students and collaborate with parents toward goals

3. Demonstrated capacity to run small groups for targeted students to proactively support mental health and wellbeing.

4. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain networks that enhance the provision of effective internal and external services for students at risk

5. Highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise effectively with internal teams and external service providers

6. Clear understanding of legislative requirements regarding privacy of health information and child safe standards.

Role

Abide by the Schools Code of Conduct which expect and require staff and visitors to ensure the protection of students

- Providing early intervention services (including short-term counselling) for individual students and groups identified as at-risk and/or experiencing or demonstrating mild to moderate mental health concerns.
- Planning and implementing evidence-based intervention strategies for students with complex needs including collaborating with families, other professionals and agencies when appropriate to effectively manage risk.
- Maintaining professional competence and continued professional development, including attending professional development activities throughout the year.
- Meeting relevant policies and legislative requirements in relation to student health information, privacy and consent.
- Fully support the school’s Child Safe Policy for the prevention of student abuse by identifying risks early, taking all allegations and concerns seriously, reporting to appropriate staff who have specific responsibilities regarding Child Safety to remove and reduce risks to all students at RPPS

Responsibilities

- Provide counselling to students as required
- Provide referrals to other support agencies where necessary
- Provide positive school programs across specific levels that promote student wellbeing
- Liaise regularly with School Wellbeing Team regarding matters relating to wellbeing
- Provide counselling and support to students where appropriate and ensure the promotion of wellbeing across the school
- Collaborate with staff to develop individual program plans for identified students to address their personal needs
- Provide information and feedback to staff regarding individual students needs, issues and concerns and assist in the development of effective learning programs that can be implemented for students at risk
- Provide weekly and confidential feedback and updates to the Principal class and Welfare Coordinator about students
- Participate in meetings of local and/or networks of school wellbeing staff as are seen to be appropriate
