THE OPPORTUNITY

The Biobank/Clinical Data Manager is accountable, for the management of biospecimens and associated clinicopathological data contributing to the overall research goals of the Prostate Cancer Group. This is a well-established biobank with over 9,000 consented participants. The valuable resource has underpinned over 300 publications. The Manager will perform a broad range of tasks to ensure efficient day to day running of the St Vincent’s Campus Prostate Cancer Group (SVCPCG)

The Garvan Institute/The Kinghorn Cancer Centre (TKCC) is involved in an inter-disciplinary collaboration with a number of teaching hospitals. The Manager is to bridge the gap between clinical practice and the molecular and cell biology of cancer. For this goal to be met efficient acquisition, knowledge of medical terminology including pathology testing and cancer medicine, interpretation of clinical, pathological and molecular data must occur.

**Salary**: Up to $100,000 + 14% superannuation + salary packaging. Prorated $60,000 (depending on experience).

Employment Type: Part time - 3 days a week (22.8 hours) 1 year fixed term contract

WHAT YOU WILL DO

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIESEnsure efficient day to day running of the Clinical Database and Tissue/Blood Biobank- Managing the Tissue/Blood Biobank. Biospecimens, access processes and policies, including transferring biospecimens to authorised investigator(s).- Ethics Management e.g., Annual reports, Amendments, Material Transfer Agreements at St Vincent’s Hospital HREC.- Identify suitable research participants. Explain research project and obtain informed consent.- Collection of biospecimens as required (Fresh Frozen Tissue, Blood)- Liaise with theatre staff, pathology department and anaesthetic team.- De-identify data and samples to protect patient confidentiality.- Manage the CanSto Prostate Database- Attention to detail, accuracy in record keeping and commitment to quality. Ensure the provision of effective and timely clinical data outcomes. This includes the supervision of data entry personnel.- Data security is maintained to protect patient records, both physically and electronically- Supervise and support visiting scientists, fellows and students with research projects and ensure that they heed correct procedures, confidentiality and ownership of data.- Supervise staff responsible for duties associated with the transfer and optimal storage of biopsecimens at the Garvan Institute. Maintenance of optimal storage includes periodic auditing of both frozen and archival samples- Dissemination of standardized protocols for biospecimen and clinical data collection & best practice guidelines- Creating links with clinical research nurses and data managers involved in St. Vincent’s Hospital/Garvan projects, including a link to non-traditional Garvan activities e.g. clinical trials.- Participating in weekly meetings with the supervisors- Comprehensive on the job training will be provided

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREDKnowledge and/or experience with database systems and records management are essential- A degree in nursing, science, applied science or a health-related discipline- Excellent data entry skills- Ability to communicate effectively with other scientists and clinicians- Understanding of clinical aspects of the research- Strong interpersonal skills- Well-developed administrative abilities- A strong commitment to quality- Sensitivity to patients’ privacy, needs and confidentialityComprehensive on the job training will be provided.
