**The Role**
The Applied Aerial Autonomy Trials and Integration Lead will contribute specialist expertise to support the integration of advanced technologies into Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) and their subsequent inclusion in flight test experimentation at Defence Trials. Together with the Aerial Autonomy team, you will deliver scientific outcomes and informed advice to enhance the capability provided by UAS in challenging environments both now and into the future.

Aerial Autonomy (AA) group conducts a range of research including novel navigation and aerial swarming as they relate to fixed and rotary wing UAS. The STC is highly focused on demonstrating concepts in the real world by rapidly taking ideas from concept to experimentation. You will draw on your significant demonstrated experience in real-world experimentation and electro-mechanical integration of systems to support the transition of the cutting-edge research of AA members from concept through to real-world experimental systems.

The duties of this position include:

- Collaboratively work with the AA research team and their partners on experimental system design
- Design and integration of experimental payloads and equipment onto platforms
- Manage airworthiness of aerial systems and swarms including configuration management consistent with the Defence aviation requirements
- Assist in the management and day-to-day operation of integration and manufacturing facilities
- Participation in and support to flight trials at Defence ranges

**About our Team**

Research is focused on developing and demonstrating capabilities to extend autonomous systems operations into more challenging environments including alternate navigation technologies for operations in contested environments; autonomous multi-robot teaming; novel sensing technologies for operations in urban environments, and novel flight system technologies.

The outcomes of this program inform ADF acquisition decisions and concept exploration programs to identify future capability needs.
- Well-developed skills in the area of trials planning, management and execution.
- Experience in managing operations of an integration facility
- Experience in working with autonomous platforms, including electronic design and integration and mechanical rapid prototyping (3D printing, CAD)
