Job duties
The job duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Provides the CRA's official interpretation of the provisions of the Income Tax Act (the Act), Regulations and related statutes; and, disseminates to the public, primarily through a dedicated telephone service, all advance tax rulings and technical interpretations issued by the CRA, and all technical publications developed to fulfill the CRA's role of promoting accuracy and consistency in the interpretation of the Act by its staff, and fostering compliance with the Act.

Essential staffing requirements
To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements.
Education
- The eligibility for a designation from a recognized professional accounting association; or
- A degree from a recognized postsecondary institution with acceptable specialization in accounting*; or
- A degree from a recognized postsecondary institution with an acceptable specialization in business administration, commerce, economics, finance, law or tax**; or
- A law degree** from a recognized postsecondary institution
- Acceptable specialization in accounting
For the purpose of the minimum AU education standard, an acceptable specialization in accounting must include the following mandatory study area and two of four optional study areas:
Mandatory study area
CPA Advanced Financial Reporting or FA4 or Advanced Financial Accounting or Advanced Accounting
Two of four optional study areas
- CPA Audit and Assurance or AU1 or Auditing or Internal Auditing or Internal Control
- CPA Introductory Management Accounting or MA1 or Cost Accounting or Management Accounting 1 and 2
- CPA Intermediate Management Accounting or MA2 or Management Accounting or Management Accounting 4 or Advanced Management Accounting
- CPA Information Technology or MS1 or Accounting Information Systems or Information and Computer Systems or Management Information Systems.
Some of the courses listed above may require a combination of courses to be considered equivalent depending on the recognized postsecondary institution. The courses required for the acceptable specialization may or may not be part of a degree program, but must be from a recognized postsecondary institution or a recognized professional accounting association.
**Acceptable specialization in business administration, commerce, economics, finance, law or tax
For the purpose of the minimum AU education standard, the acceptable specialization is defined as a degree, a major or equivalent (established or confirmed by a recognized postsecondary institution), in business administration, commerce, economics, finance, law or tax.

Acquired rights
Previous acquired rights will continue to be recognized for former and current incumbents who had previously been deemed to meet the education standard of the AU group. However, if an acceptable specialization in accounting is required for a position, an employee who has acquired rights but does not have the acceptable accounting courses cannot be considered for the position.
