Canberra, Australia Australian Government Department of Defence Full time

$78,143 - $83,700 (plus Super and BDCP)
- Canberra - ACT

**The Role**
There’s no more exciting Government Department to work for than Defence

The beauty of our Contracting Officer roles is the diversity of the work. We support the Australian Defence Force and Defence Groups by proving procurement and contracting advice.

The tasks we work on are both big and small. Some can extend over the course of a year and it provides huge job satisfaction to see a project worth hundreds of millions of dollars get across the line to help our soldiers, sailors and aviators.

Some of the tasks you might be expected to do include:

- Assisting with strategy development and planning;
- Developing and issuing tenders and requests for quotation to the market;
- Participating in contract negotiations between Defence and industry;
- Providing advice to Defence clients on their contracts;
- Assisting Defence clients conducting contract performance reviews;
- Reviewing and approving payment of invoices; and
- Conducting contract governance and reporting activities.

These roles are eligible for additional ‘Building Defence Capability Payments (BDCP)’ which enable Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the rate of salary otherwise payable under the Enterprise Agreement (EA) to some or all of the jobs within a critical occupation(s) or discipline within a workplace.

**About our Team**
The Non Materiel Procurement Branch delivers commercial expertise and solutions for procurement and contracting across the procurement life cycle to help Defence meet its objectives, maximise value for money outcomes and meet legislative and mandatory policy requirements.

As a branch of high performing individuals, teams work closely together to provide sound and timely advice to support both simple and complex procurement projects. In addition to supporting procurements, the teams review and refine best practice procurement and contracting processes to ensure adherence to regulatory and legislative frameworks.

Team members are motivated and positive in their approach to work, and have a variety of backgrounds, qualifications and experience. Effective mentoring and a supportive working environment, including highly desirable and sought after professionalisation opportunities, encourages the growth and development of team members to reach their full potential.

We promote an inclusive culture that echoes Defence values - service, courage, respect, integrity and excellence. We are committed to ensuring our people feel appreciated, participate fully, and have access to tailored career pathways. We are flexible and agile in our approach to work, encourage our staff to have a healthy work life balance, and offer access to training and development opportunities and mentoring and coaching services.

But we understand that Contracting Officers, don’t grow on trees. If they did, we’d have picked them already J That’s why we trust in our ability to recruit good people and train them.
