Mergent Recruitment are currently partnering with an award winning multi-disciplinary Engineering Consultancy providing services and solutions to the development, property and urban infrastructure sectors across Australia.

We are seeking a qualified & experienced Laboratory Manager, ready to take on the challenge of managing & developing a growing business whilst inspiring and motivating staff to achieve the business objectives. Ideal for an enthusiastic individual who wishes to take responsibility for all aspects of technical delivery, compliance and staff leadership in a highly regarded, industry leading, independent NATA accredited Soils, Concrete and Materials testing laboratory.

As Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for motivating a small team of soil technicians to achieve great service outcomes for a diverse and respected group of clients and will have key involvement on many of Victoria’s foremost projects;
- Supervision and management of laboratory staff including training and upskilling of technicians
- Mentoring and coaching of technical staff to develop and grow professionally in laboratory management and testing skills
- Participation in the development of business opportunities in Victoria and liaison with Laboratory Business Manager to identify potential income streams
- Coordination of day-to-day operational requirements of the testing laboratory
- Liaison with internal staff and clients on testing schedules, methods, procedures and results
- Overseeing the sampling, testing and reporting in accordance with the specifications, using appropriate test methods
- Preparation of test reports
- Reviewing all test reports issued with NATA endorsement before approval and issue to clients
- Laboratory’s ongoing compliance to the laboratory quality manual and ISO/IEC 17025
- Management of the appropriate maintenance and calibration of all laboratory equipment
- Ensure compliance with OHS Act 2004 & WorkSafe Victoria through Risk Assessments, Safe Operating Procedures & Safe Work Method Statements, as required

**SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS**:

- In depth understanding of and VicRoads standards for Soils, Concrete, Aggregate
- Proven experience on bulk fill / Level 1 project
- Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques
- Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements
- Nuclear density gauge license
- Current construction induction white card
- Current driver’s license (ability to drive manual required)
- Experience working on tier 1 civil construction projects
- Physically fit and prepared to undertake labour intensive tasks, as required
- Able to meet deadlines whilst prioritising internal and external works
- Proven capability to work under pressure and to lead small to medium teams
- Preparation of NATA results for clients
- Strong commitment to quality and safety
- Self-motivated and proactive
- Australian citizenship essential

High-level on the job training will be provided in a professional and collegiate environment, and the possibility to work a compressed 9-day fortnight and the ability to mix working from home with working in the office.
