Asbestos Laboratory Technician

S.L.S part of ADE group is looking for an Asbestos laboratory technician to add to our Asbestos department based in Williamstown North, Melbourne. As part of the role, you will be conducting routine analysis in soil, bulk, and air samples, as well as assisting in maintaining the laboratory quality systems in our NATA accredited laboratory.

**Responsibilities include**:

- Routine preparation and analysis of soil and air samples.
- Performing asbestos fibre counting and asbestos identification on a range of materials including building materials, soil, air, and dust samples.
- Becoming an authorised signatory for Fibre counting and Fibre identification.
- Participating in external and internal proficiency testing as required by SLS.
- Carrying out scheduled instrument calibration and maintenance in accordance with documented procedures.
- Understanding and uphold general laboratory QA/QC criteria and NATA accreditation requirements as part of ISO17025. Ensuring the quality of data produced fulfils the requirements of SLS’s quality policy, NATA certification and stated data quality objectives.
- Perform other duties as directed by the section supervisor to ensure the smooth running of the section.

**Qualifications& Skills**
- Appropriate tertiary qualification desirable, TAFE certificates minimum.
- Earth Science or Geology graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Experience in Asbestos analysis using PLM/Dispersion staining technique is preferred.
- Flexibility with working hours and tasks, as some weekend work and overtime may be required from time to time.
- Previous NATA signatory status in asbestos identification preferred.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Previous experience with XRD will be highly regarded.
- Full rights to work full-time in Australia is essential.
