Principal Electrical Safety Inspector
**The Principal Electrical Safety Inspector is a mobile, field-based position that supports the Lead Inspector/s and Electrical Safety Manager in developing,
implementing and monitoring the workload of the region's inspectors. Electrical Safety Inspectors deliver the ESO's statewide compliance and engagement program, respond to complaints and incidents, and collaborate with industry and others to improve capabilities to manage electrical safety risks. Inspectors work across the entire breadth of the electrical industry, in the electrical equipment supply chain, in other high-risk industries (e.g. construction, agriculture, and manufacturing), and in non-workplace environments.
A current Queensland electrical work license is desirable.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting the Electrical Safety Manager in developing, implementing, and monitoring the regions work program as part of the regional management team.
- Monitoring and enforcing compliance by exercising the powers of an appointed inspector in accordance with the Electrical Safety Act 2002.
- Participating in the delivery of services that monitor electrical safety performance, determining the level of compliance with safety standards, and promoting good electrical safety practice.
- Investigating electrical incidents and complaints, preparing reports, and providing technical advice to investigations teams.
- Preparing and reviewing disciplinary action referrals for the independent Electrical Licensing Committee.
- Engaging external stakeholders including industry and worker representatives and others who can influence electrical safety outcomes.
- Implementing internal policies, processes, and systems to ensure work meets OIR's standards.
- Contributing to the planning, execution and evaluation of the region's electrical safety compliance and enforcement activities.
About the team
The Electrical Safety Office (ESO) helps to keep people electrically safe at work and home. We have a vision to prevent death, injury and destruction of property caused by electricity, and we work towards it by monitoring and enforcing compliance with electrical safety laws.
The ESO has six strategic goals:
1. Partnering with industry and community to achieve electrical safety outcomes.
2. Providing services that are easy to access and responsive to the needs of the industry and community.
3. Assisting industry to comply, whilst ensuring there are consequences for noncompliance.
4. Using a risk and evidence-based approach to design interventions and policy responses.
5. Providing electrical safety information, education, and targeted interventions.
6. Empowering a competent, confident, and collaborative team.
How to apply
Submit your resume and a short statement (no more than 2 pages) outlining your ability to undertake the responsibilities and requirements as outlined in the 'What we are looking for' section of the position description.
