About the role

Significant reform is underway in Queensland. The Information Privacy and Other Legislative Amendments Act 2023 (IPOLA Act) amends the Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act) and the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act), to improve transparency and accountability of Queensland agencies and strengthen privacy protections available to individuals. The OIC is implementing the reforms and supporting agencies with preparation and compliance. The position of Manager, Regulatory Investigations will perform a critical role in the success of these reforms.

Key responsibilities of the role

Develop and implement effective regulatory investigations methodology, policies, and procedures.
Oversee and guide the investigations team, ensuring task allocation, supervision, and support.
Use an intelligence-led, risk management approach to achieve regulatory outcomes and objectives.
Lead complex investigations, managing risks, resolving issues, and developing contingency plans.
Participate in audits, reviews, and collaborative projects with other OIC teams.
Evaluate investigation outcomes and seek continuous improvement in processes.
Engage effectively with stakeholders to promote Queensland public sector compliance and ensure clear communication.
Provide accurate and timely strategic advice and input for executive correspondence.
Support the Assistant Commissioner in achieving OIC's strategic goals.
Manage competing demands and navigate uncertainty in investigations.
Identify strategic and systemic issues from investigations and provide advice on responses.

About the OIC

The OIC is a small organisation that plays an important role in Queensland's integrity framework, building trust through transparency.

The OIC is an independent integrity agency that reports to Parliament. Our vision is an informed Queensland that values and respects information rights and responsibilities. We have a statutory role under the RTI Act and the IP Act to facilitate greater and easier access to information held by government agencies. We also assist agencies to understand their obligations under the IP Act to safeguard personal information that they hold. Our office reviews agency decisions about access to information, mediates privacy complaints, and monitors and reports on agency compliance to Parliament.

Note: Whilst no mandatory qualifications are required, tertiary education in Law and/or experience in regulatory auditing, investigations or an independent integrity agency will be highly regarded. A Certificate IV in Government investigations is also highly desirable.
