What’s the job?
- Reporting to the Director, Public Health Information Development Unit (PHIDU) the Research Officer will, as part of a small team, provide analysis of data for online publication and presentation in the Social Health Atlas of Australia.
The Research Officer will work with mínimal supervision, be self-directed and use initiative in updating the Atlas and in working on other projects, as directed.
- Knowledge and understanding of the social determinants of health inequality is a necessary background to being able to perform this role. Skills of a high level are required in the use of a range of statistical packages, and in particular MS Excel.
Day-to-day accountabilities:
- Obtain, clean, and check data for accuracy-
- Compile, process and analyse data supplied by external agencies, using MS Excel-
- Write up results-
- Contribute to the maintenance of the PHIDU website-
- Undertake mapping and analysis of data using software including online tools (e.g., ABS TableBuilder)-

- Who you are- Tertiary qualifications in health sciences, social sciences, statistics or related fields-
- Demonstrated high-level proficiency and experience in using the Microsoft suite of products (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel (incl. compiling data using pivot tables and formulas)-
- Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills, including the capacity to work independently-
- Well-developed communication skills, including in written and oral presentation-
- Strong time management and administrative skills, and the ability to collaborate in a small team environment-
- Knowledge of and experience using/ working with SPSS, ArcMap, Tableau, Power BI, JSON, Joomla (or other web-content editors)- Why join us?
