Fish Health Manager

**Purpose**
The primary purpose of the role is to manage fish health, welfare, biosecurity and environmental interactions with all fish populations in the Region. The Fish Health Manager will have a hands-on approach to improve fish welfare and survival by undertaking a wide range of surveillance and investigative activities, with support from the Regional Fish Health Technicians.
**Key accountabilities**
- Monitor daily reviews and analyse reports of the health and disease status of every pen in the Region including mortality trends, mortality assessment and gill check results, feed trends and behaviour.
- Maintain monitoring regimes for Amoebic Gill Disease (AGD) and ensure gill health status across the region is known, sharing information to the Fish Performance Manager.
- Contribute to bath operations to ensure compliance with Huon’s operational and fish welfare policies and report any non-compliances to the Group Fish Health Manager.
- Actively work on and assist with fish health surveillance activities, laboratory and flesh quality sampling, at the direction of the Group Fish Health Manager.
- Oversee and ensure routine water sampling is conducted to monitor for algae and jellyfish patterns and advise mitigation strategies in consultation with the Regional Manager during bloom events.
- Track environmental trends, such as dissolved oxygen, temperature, tide/flow and wildlife interactions, in relation to Fish Health and Welfare, to investigate patterns within the Region and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure all relevant reports displaying information from Fish Health tasks are up-to-date and any problems or data errors are escalated appropriately and followed through to resolution.
- Work closely with the IT department to develop additional data reporting tools to facilitate analysis of fish health and environmental parameters.
- Maintain current data systems, correlating information about best fish practices, trends and assessments within the region to assist with forecasting working closely with the Fish Performance Manager.
**To be successful**
- Tertiary qualifications in a science or related discipline or equivalent experience (min 5 years).
- Experience effectively leading small teams and projects to achieve desired outcomes.
- Experience in a fish performance or fish health role, demonstrating a high level of understanding of fish biology, water chemistry and fish production cycles.
- Effective written and oral communication skills and build strong relationships with key stakeholders
- A clear understanding of Huon’s, the Tasmanian salmon industry and government fish health, biosecurity and welfare policies and protocols.
- Uphold exemplary practices and undertake regular communications, training and enforcement of Huon’s Veterinary Health Plan protocols encompassing fish health, biosecurity and animal welfare within the Region,
- Current Tasmanian driver’s licence.
- Coxswains and/or experience working on boats.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Current Deck Machinery Certificate.
- Demonstrate a high level of competency with the Microsoft Office suite.

Pay: $130,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
