**Hours**:This is a casual role with a rotating shift roster, providing backfill for part-time and full-time staff, covering sick leave, and offering additional support as needed

**Location**:Kaurna Country, Sonder Safe Haven Salisbury. Operating hours Tuesday to Friday 4.30 pm - 9.30 pm

**About the Role**:
The **Peer Practitioner** will draw upon their personal lived experience of mental illness to engage and build meaningful connections with clients of **Safe Haven**. They will adopt a **strengths-based, recovery-oriented approach** to care and serve as a positive **role model for recovery** for individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Additionally, the Peer Practitioner will work collaboratively as part of the **Safe Haven Team** to provide integrated and person-centred support.

**Safe Haven** is a free, walk-in mental health service offering a safe and supportive alternative to visiting the Emergency Department. Whether someone is feeling overwhelmed, distressed, or simply needs someone to talk to, Safe Haven provides a listening ear and a calm, welcoming, and non-clinical environment. The space is designed to foster connection and understanding, offering a non-judgmental setting where individuals can feel heard, supported, and valued.

The overarching aim of **Sonder’s Peer Practice Workforce** is to utilise lived experience of mental health challenges, recovery, and/or substance use to:

- Inspire hope, empowerment, and motivation for mental health recovery and achievement of alcohol and other drug (AOD) goals
- Foster mutual and reciprocal relationships
- Challenge and reduce stigma surrounding mental health challenges and substance use
- Create opportunities for both individuals and staff to benefit from shared and collective wisdom

**Experience Requirements**:

- Demonstrated experience working within a fast-paced environment.
- Has experienced mental illness and has demonstrable experience of recovery.
- Has previous work experience in administrative roles and has had experience with using databases and computer systems.

**Qualification and Other Requirements**:

- Current or willing to obtain a Working with Children's Check (WWCC)
- Current or willing to obtain a National Police Check (NPC)
- Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work
