**About Monash Health**

**About Monash Mental Health**

Monash Health Mental Health Program provides a range of community, bed-based and specialist services covering the Casey, Cardinia, Greater Dandenong, Kingston and Monash LGAs - a population of nearly one million. It has an operational budget of $130 million and employs approximately 820 EFT, representing over 1000 staff.

The Program has a number of clinical units including three area mental health services (Casey, Dandenong and Clayton), an Early in Life Mental Health Service (comprising infant, child and adolescent), a Young Persons’ Mental Health Service (18 - 25 years), Psychology Specialist Services (PsySS), a Drug & Alcohol service, and five Prevention and Recovery Care Services (PARCS) across the Monash Health Network Catchment. The Program has a 24hr Psychiatric Triage Phone service covering all ages. There is also a Gender Dysphoria Clinic which is based at Clayton Campus. Southern Synergy, a part of the Mental Health Program, supports the Program’s research and quality improvement activities. The clinical service is supported by an aligned operational structure to enable the provision of high quality service through the creation of clinical-operational partnerships - to support staff, patients, carers and their families - as well as a strong professional structure that supports the governance of the health professional workforce. Together, we seek to deliver quality patient-centred health care and services that meet the needs of our diverse communities.

The Young Persons’ Mental Health Service (YPMHS) comprises an inpatient unit at Dandenong hospital, a Recovery and Prevention of Psychosis Team, a Youth Consultation and Treatment Team, and a Youth Prevention and Recovery Care Service. These service are rapidly expanding, and there are many exciting opportunities to develop innovative approaches to the delivery of treatment, care and support for young persons living with mental illness and disorders, and their families.

**About the Role**

Monash Health is one of six mental health services to receive funding in 2019 through the personality disorder initiative to build the specialist capability of mental health clinicians to assess, treat, and support people with severe personality disorders who are at high risk of suicide, high lethality self-harm, or violent or aggressive behaviours. The initiative is intended to build workforce capacity in responding to personality disorders as part of the core business of Victorian public clinical mental health services.

The Personality Disorder specialist imitative is delivered in a partnership with Spectrum (Victoria’s statewide personality disorder service). Personality disorder experts from Spectrum provide these clinicians with intensive training and clinical supervision of complex cases.

At Monash Health, the Personality Specialist Service has a focus on young adults (18-25 years) and is embedded in the Youth Consultation and Treatment team within the Young persons’ Mental Health Service.

The Personality Disorder Clinical Specialist will build capacity within the clinical mental health workforce in Victoria’s public health services to assess, treat, and support people with severe and complex personality disorders who are at high-risk for suicide, high lethality self-harm, and/or violent or aggressive behaviours, and who present to Victorian Hospital Emergency Departments and/or psychiatric inpatient facilities on multiple occasions, generally with multiple services involved in their care. The Personality Disorder Clinical Specialist will utilise specialist knowledge and skills and work with Spectrum and Eastern Health to promote best practice and optimal recovery outcomes for people with personality disorders.
