About the Role

This role is for a Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 4 (NP75-77).

The role is that of a specialist mental health clinician with training, qualifications and experience in assessing and providing intensive mental health interventions to children and adolescents who present with severe mental health problems, associated high risk factors and have difficulties engaging with mental health services.

The key components of the role include:

  • Provision of specific high quality, accurate ongoing assessments and therapeutic intervention, for youth justice clients in the South East Region Youth Justice System, as appropriate within the context of a multidisciplinary team
  • Developing a developmental and psychological formulation to understand a young person's mental health difficulties and inform intervention planning
  • Providing primary, secondary and tertiary consultation to Youth Justice
  • Provision of therapeutic support to the 'system' around the young person in a collaborative and reflective partnership with other involved agencies

All Young Persons' Mental Health Service employees work within a framework of quality improvement, adhere to Australian Council of Health Care Standards (ACHS) requirements and risk management principals with the primary focus being on the rights and responsibilities of clients and their families and adherence to the values contained in the service mission statement.

About the Young Persons Mental Health Service

Young Persons Mental Health Services (YPMHS) provides mental health assessment and treatment for young people (aged 18-25 years) and their families. We work with the 18-25 age group in the Southern Region, providing a comprehensive assessment service and a range of treatment options including inpatient treatment in times of crisis, community (outpatient) treatment, group programs, family therapy, and specialist services. We work with families to address a number of complex issues they may be experiencing, including parent/child relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, trauma related issues, self-harm, suicidal thinking, eating disorders, neuro developmental presentations and psychosis. We also work collaboratively with families, educational settings and other agencies to create identified areas for change and work strongly from a relational and systemic framework. We now have ongoing (permanent), full-time opportunity available to work as a youth mental health clinician in our thriving, engaged Youth Community Mental Health Team, providing mental health assessment, formulation and treatment to complex and acute young people in the South East. With exposure to a multidisciplinary team led by consultant psychiatrists, we provide assessment and treatment for youth and their families in the City of Casey, City of Greater Dandenong, and the Shire of Cardinia.
