**About the Gathering Place & The Engage Project**
The Gathering Place (TGP) in Morwell was established in 2017 to provide a culturally safe space for the Aboriginal community to come together, learn, share, and celebrate culture.
Since its inception, TGP has grown into a trusted and welcoming hub for the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
The Engage project at TGP aims to provide young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Latrobe City area with a culturally safe environment to develop critical life skills, strengthen their connection to culture, and foster meaningful relationships with peers and trusted adults.
**Your Opportunity**
A key part of this project is the facilitation of young men’s and young women’s groups. The gendered model is a traditional approach in Aboriginal culture where young people are nurtured by aunties and uncles in the transition from childhood to adulthood, to learn and connect with Aboriginal ways and culture.
By providing structured activities for both the Young Men’s and Young Women’s groups, TGP will offer culturally relevant and practical experiences that empower young people to thrive in their personal and professional lives.
You will be responsible for delivering the Young Men’s program component of the project through the provision of leadership and mentorship of young Aboriginal men whilst contributing to program planning, implementation and evaluation
This is a designated position and only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander men are eligible to apply, as per the Special Measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).
This role involves working in a culturally sensitive Aboriginal men’s community space, where gender and cultural identity are essential to the delivery of services and community engagement.

You bring a calm, grounded presence and are seen as a role model—someone who leads with integrity, listens deeply, and builds trust through respectful relationships. You understand the importance of cultural ways of knowing, being, and doing, and you’re committed to creating a culturally safe space where young people feel seen, heard, and empowered.
- Confident in facilitating group activities and sharing cultural knowledge.
- A qualification in Youth work, Community services or other relevant qualification and/or experience is required for the qualified rate.
- Or/a commitment to work towards a qualification at an unqualified rate.
