**The Role**
Within the Project Management team, the APS 5 Security Advisor is to work under general direction and exercise judgement with respect to how procedures and guidelines are interpreted and applied. The Security Advisor is to have experience in managing projects and be capable of prioritising and managing tasks, monitoring workflow, and communicating issues that may impact on the work area. The Security Advisor is to demonstrate broad experience working in the areas of electronic and physical security, be a confident communicator, both verbally and in writing. The APS 5 will be required to undertake specialist research and analysis, conduct reviews, assessments and perform procedural, clerical, administrative support work with supervisor guidance to achieve results.
**About our Team**
The Directorate of Security Operations (DSO) provides physical security services and contracted access
control personnel across the Defence Estate. DSO is responsible for implementing and enhancing network
access control systems across Defence nationally, including developing project plans for the management
of security system capabilities.
The position supports security related projects associated with the National Defence Strategy and
Integrated Investment Program.
The position also plays a key role in addressing areas of noncompliance associated with the national
networked Gallagher Electronic Access Control System/s (EACS) and, developing and implementing a
strategic plan to network the EACS at existing and future Defence bases.
An APS 5 Security Advisor will demonstrate an ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships and respond to stakeholder needs and expectations.
The APS 5 should have:
- A well-developed understanding of project management in a security context.
- Have a demonstrated ability to work under limited guidance,
- Identify problems or issues and resolve them or raise with management.
- Be capable of exercising judgement, making independent decisions and being accountable for outcomes.
- Be a confident communicator with well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Have the ability to target communications to diverse audiences.
