We are seeking an Automation Technician to join our Maintenance Group in the Customer Delivery Division.

**The Opportunity**

As the Automation Technician you will primarily be responsible for the maintenance, repair and operational functions of Telemetry, PLC, SCADA, Instrumentation, and Industrial/Automation Communication networks within Hunter Water’s area of interest.

**What you'll do**:

- Design & implementation of telemetry, process control and Automation systems.
- Languages (including IEC61131-3 compliant programming languages)
- Project management (mini or minor) and commissioning of jobs/activities within EMM budget guidelines
- Preparation of reports & budget estimates
- Assist Field Supervisor in training/development of electrical staff in relation to Automation equipment.
- Installation and wiring of automation equipment incidental to the work
- Ability to read and interpret and alter electrical schematic drawings.
- Supervise specific works allocated including the management/coordination of other day labour, contractor resources, or internal Hunter Water staff.
- Accurate and timely initiation and completion of all relevant documentation in corporate systems
- Relieving in a Supervisory capacity as required to build leadership skills and maintain resource requirements. Participation in the EMM Electrical after hours on call roster is a requirement of this role.

**What you'll need to be successful**:
**Essential Criteria**:

- Electrical Trade Qualifications with a current Qualified Supervisor Certificate for Electrical Work
- Post trade qualifications in Automation, Instrumentation, or a similar related field.
- Formal competency (i.e., formal vendor training) in PLC, SCADA, Telemetry, or Instrumentation systems
- Class C Drivers Licence
- Construction Induction card (White card)
- A minimum of 4 years demonstrated experience in the Automation field.
- Advanced skills in using PLC’s and SCADA systems for fault finding.
- Demonstrated advanced PLC experience using IEC61131-3 compliant programming languages.
- Demonstrated experience with large SCADA systems using geographically dispersed RTU’s.
- Demonstrated competencies in Instrumentation.
- Experience with Industrial Ethernet systems
- Experience with Digital Radio systems
- Experience in Industrial maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair and installation including motor starters, industrial and process control.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office suite
- Working knowledge of AS3000 Wiring Rules
- Able to interpret Engineering drawings, OEM manuals, and standards.

**Desirable Criteria**:

- Completed, or be in the process of completing, formal qualifications in a relevant field (i.e. Advanced Certificate, Advanced Diploma or Engineering Certificate)
- Experience with, and completion of high voltage training including HV Access Permit Receiver, HV Switching Officer and HV Planning Officer
- Experience with Geo SCADA / Unity Pro / Control Expert software
- Experience in a supervisory and/or project management role
- Familiarity of computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Maintenance report writing skills.
- Live within Hunter Water’s area of operations
