**POSITION OVERVIEW**:
The Division of Cancer and Ambulatory Support (CAS) provides comprehensive cancer screening, diagnostic, assessment and treatment services in inpatient, outpatient and non-admitted treatment settings. The division is also responsible for immunology, specialist palliative care, medical physics and radiation safety, walk in centres and organisational outpatient support through Central Intake, transcription, policy support and the Central Outpatients Department.
The Palliative Care Service at Canberra Health Services is a consult liaison service operating during business hours and services patients with palliative needs throughout the wider hospital campus.
This Palliative Care registrar role at Canberra Hospital is one of two palliative care consult team registrars within a busy metropolitan acute hospital setting. Canberra Hospital is an accredited site for advanced training in palliative medicine training by the Royal Australasian College of Physician (RACP)/Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (AChPM) Palliative Medicine Education Committee. The Canberra Hospital Palliative care services is accredited to provide training for registrars to complete Training Term 3 (Teaching hospital / Consultation), Training Term 4 (Cancer Care Setting) or the Diploma of Palliative Medicine.
This role will be embedded within a multi-disciplinary team including specialist doctors, nurses, nurse-practitioners, psychosocial care providers, spiritual care providers and volunteers. Registrars will be allocated inpatient and clinic patients to assess, manage and follow-up with supervision and support from the multi-disciplinary team. Supervised practice within the medical oncology team within clinics, participating in ward rounds and attending tumour stream and MDT meetings will contribute to the learning opportunities available to the registrar. This role will work closely with other affiliated services which integrate with the palliative care service including pain services, medical oncology, radiation oncology, haematology and consultation-liaison psychiatry.
**DUTIES**:
Under limited direction of the Director of Palliative Care you will perform.
You will:
- Participation in a supervised on-call roster for palliative care registrars as “first on call” for the local palliative care unit (Clare Holland House)
- Contribution to clinical MDT meetings with palliative care and medical oncology and education meetings
- The opportunity to contribute to education of medical students through the ANU medical school, junior doctors, nurses and allied health professional.
- The opportunity to contribute to palliative care research activities conducted by the CHS palliative care research service.
- Contributing to a wide-range of additional quality, teaching and self-care activities undertaken by the service.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
