About the opportunity

Casual roles in the Aboriginal Programs team have become available providing advocacy and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and families utilizing WMH services. These roles will cover day and evening shifts as the team look to expand into after hours to provide enhanced support and advocacy to Aboriginal people.

The purpose of the role is:
- To provide support and advocacy to improve access and availability of appropriate health services and preventative care for Aboriginal people.- To develop strategies to promote culturally sensitive health care and wellbeing among Aboriginal people attending WMH.- To assist WMH in providing culturally sensitive care to Aboriginal people attending the hospital and their families.

To thrive in this role, you will have:
- Qualifications in Social Work, Welfare or Community Development or equivalent experience in social work or community development fields.- Current Victorian driver’s license.- Experience in providing support and advocacy to Aboriginal people and families.- Demonstrated ability and experience in managing complex cases, keeping case notes and writing reports.- Knowledge of and commitment to the Victorian Aboriginal community, mainstream and Aboriginal health services, and the Victorian health system.- Understanding of the Aboriginal culture and values, particularly as they relate to the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

You will also be required to provide evidence of, or in the process of obtaining:
- A current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.- Current Victorian driver's license.- Proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccination status consistent with public health orders.
