**About SEPHU**:
The South East Public Health Unit (SEPHU) is a major component of a once in a generation reform of public health delivery in Victoria. The new system consists of three Melbourne metropolitan Public Health Units (North Eastern [NEPHU], Western [WPHU] and South East [SEPHU]), who are linked with the existing six Regional Public Health Units and the Department of Health (DH).
SEPHU is led and coordinated by Monash Health and was established initially to strengthen the public health response to COVID-19 through end-to-end contact tracing and outbreak management, screening and vaccination. The unit enables the integration of care and public health functions, whilst enhancing the ability to rapidly respond to infection prevention issues, new cases and outbreaks within Monash Health and approximately 1.7 million people within local catchment areas.
SEPHU’s public health functions are consistently reviewed and improved to meet the demands of our community. Roles and responsibilities within the program may change in accordance with future service demands and public health directions.
The local public health units [LPHUs] are progressively taking on broader public health functions beyond COVID-19, working to strengthen relationships with health care providers and services within their respective catchments to deliver a comprehensive public health program.
