We seek a talented and motivated individual to work as part of the Marine Networks team, undertaking moderate to complex network support tasks such as data management & QC, maintenance, inspections, installation, planning and logistics in support of the Bureau’s operational marine observing networks. The position will also provide support to contract staff performing routine ship inspection activities.
You will become a member of a small, nationally distributed group lead by an Executive Officer Level 1. The group is involved in all aspects of marine network management including Expendable Bathythermograph Ship-of-Opportunity Programme; the Australian Voluntary Observing Fleet; support for national Port Meteorological Officers; drifting and moored buoys; profiling floats; automated shipboard weather observing and reporting systems; and other systems as they become operational. The team also provides meteorological, oceanographic and technical advice in support of the Bureau’s operational marine observing activities.
This position will be based in the Perth Observing Operations Hub. The successful individual will be required to undertake moderate to complex operational tasks in support of the marine observing networks. You will be accountable for and report to the Team Leader on:
- Monitoring the performance of marine observing networks
- Performing monitoring and quality control on incoming marine data
- Maintaining accurate metadata records and asset management information
- Performing Port Meteorological Officer activities with a particular focus on west coast operations
- Contributing to the development of training materials and other documentation
- Maintaining supply of marine observing equipment and consumables
- Deployment planning and logistics for the drifting buoy program
Whilst working under the general guidance of the Marine Networks Manager and XBT/Argo Data Manager, the role requires you to show significant autonomy in the delivery of the above-mentioned activities. You may also be tasked with additional relevant duties at the appropriate level.
