The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is one of five tertiary referral units in Melbourne, providing care for sick and premature babies across Victoria. On average 1600 premature and medically very sick babies are admitted each year. The Neonatal Service also plays a key role in providing education and training for local, national and international health professionals and has an extensive research program that includes long term care follow up.
The Women's NICU is a 60 bed unit made up on 28 Level 6 cots and 32 Level 3-5 cots. The NICU model of care is designed to keep mothers and babies together, underpinned by several principles, including: consistency, continuity of care and engagement of families
**Your contribution**
- Lead the delivery of efficient, effective and well planned care to babies and their families
- Provide leadership and management of the NICU team ensuring positive and professional environment
- Be a role model and clinical resource person in the provision of care for babies and their families with NICU.
- Ensure the efficient and effective service operations by performing all responsibilities and duties outlines in this position description
**Responsibilites and Major Activites**
- Advanced Clinical Skill: Provide Clinical Leadership and support for nursing staff and families in NICU
- Escalates issues appropriately within the organisation and identifies resources and supports
- Act as a delegate for the Nurse Unit Managers in their absence and supports the Nurse Unit Managers to provide overall administrative and clinical management of their service.
- Allocates staff, maintains the appropriate skill mix and level of supervision to promote high quality, consistent and safe care.
- Collaborates with medical staff in a timely manner for the provision of care.
- Assesses plans, implements and evaluate care as a key member of the multidisciplinary team to optimise care of the newborn and facilitate access and flow.
- Liaise and develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
**To be successful within the role you will need to have**:
- Registered Nurse and or Registered Midwife - APHRA registered
- Post Graduate Neonatal Nursing qualification or equivalent
- Previous Management experience
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and time manage.
- Demonstrated experience in working effectively and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Well-developed written and electronic communication skills including policy or CPG development.
- Flexible approach to problem solving
- Excellent time management and prioritising ability

**Influenza Vaccination Requirement**
In line with the Health Services Amendment (Mandatory Vaccination of Healthcare Workers) Act 2020, some health care workers are now required to have their flu vaccination to work in health care. Evidence of vaccination is required.
As this role fits into category C of the departments risk ratings, applicants are strongly encouraged (although not required) to be vaccinated against influenza.)
