**About the role**
WesTrac has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Technical Lead to join our New Machines Team at our Tomago Branch. This workshop has a team of over 100 employees and operates around the clock, building large-scale surface mining and construction equipment. New
Machines is a dynamic, solutions-focused, and forward-thinking team who are passionate about delivering high-quality CAT machines to our large-scale customer base across the mining and construction industries.
This position will see you providing high quality information and guidance on technical issues to both internal and external stakeholders.
Reporting to the Project Manager - New Machines, you will provide support to the Project Team with tasks relating to technical aspects of Project Management. This includes identifying and executing improvement opportunities regarding task sequencing, supporting machine quality through BOM accuracy and work scope gaps and impacts on the project timeline as technical challenges arise.
This role is a pivotal touch point between the technicians working on the workshop floor and the Project Coordinators, ensuring that solutions contribute to an efficient build in accordance with business standards.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Review and investigate technical product issues and provide recommendations for timely solutions, liaising with appropriate WesTrac and CAT representatives.
- Review root cause analysis (RCA) documents on machine builds and report through stakeholders as required, to ensure continuous improvement of product information.
- Attend project handovers, kick off and close out meetings to identify scope gaps and provide technical support in the acceptance and execution of projects.
- Undertake project audits against standard specifications and work scope to validate project progress Provide reported recommendations to change customer maintenance and/or operational practices.
- Promote continuous improvement and the utilisation of Caterpillar Production System (CPS) within the operational team.
**Skills & Experience**
- Mechanical Trade qualification with proven post trade experience.
- Certificate IV or higher in Project Management (Desirable).
- Previous experience in rebuild or new machine builds in the heavy industry.
- Collaborative approach to problem solving.
- Highly developed attention to detail.
- Well-developed planning and organisational skills to coordinate team, work activities and project outcomes simultaneously.
- Advanced communication skills including the ability to effectively engage and manage stakeholders and deliver presentations.
- The ability to effectively resolve issues and identify continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency in the MS Office Suite, and SAP experience is desirable but not essential.
