**Your new career**:
The Coordinator Workplace Health and Safety is part of the People & Culture leadership team, leading our safety management system whilst ensuring the safety, health, and wellbeing of our workforce.
This role will drive positive change and education in safety performance, leadership, and culture within the organisation while providing leadership and direction to the small WHS team, WHS Committee and HSE representatives.
**What you will bring to the role**:
We are currently looking for a leader who is passionate about safety and a willingness to work in a fast paced environment with competing priorities. No two days are the same here. Your curious nature will be pivotal in enhancing our workplace health and safety standards. You will lead a team of two WHS Advisors helping them to thrive and be their best every day.
We value new ideas and enjoy working collaboratively together. A key focus for this role will be to work alongside the Manager People & Culture (whom you will report to) to drive continuous improvement initiatives to support our psychosocial hazard framework.

- An experienced leader who is capable of empowering and inspiring the team to perform to an exceptional standard.
- Have a high level of emotional intelligence coupled with humility, resilience and tenacity to enable you to effectively build rapport and credibility across the organisation.
- The skills to negotiate, influence and drive change, whilst being collaborative to achieve strategic WHS goals in a complex environment.
- You will enjoy working with data and undertaking analysis along with generating reports for senior leadership and committees.
**Key selection criteria**
**Mandatory qualifications, experience and requirements**
- Degree or Diploma in Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) with demonstrated diverse and experience in safety leadership in both an industrial and office-based environment.
- Proven ability to build strong relationships, engage, motivate, and influence others to achieve positive safety outcomes.
- Proved ability to develop and deliver of Health and Safety programs.
- Experience in a similar role; leading a team of WHS Advisors/Officers.
- Demonstrated understanding and experience in the development of preventative strategies to minimise health and safety risks in the workplace including psychosocial hazards.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of relevant WHS legislation, guidelines and WHS management practices.
- Experience in leading the coordination of WorkCover claims management, injury management and return to work processes. Qualifications and/or certification in return to work would be ideal.
- Demonstrated experience with auditing and risk assessments.
- Working knowledge of the development requirements and ongoing accreditation of OHSAS45001 or similar quality management systems.
- A current Working With Children Check
- You have the permanent right to live and work in Australia
- Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council).
A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.
