**About Us**

Lay Brothers is a leading Asian food wholesaler established in 1986 and our wider group includes a number of supermarkets that are strategically located throughout Melbourne.

**Role Summary**

We are seeking an experienced retail buyer to join our head office. This role involves procuring southeastern Asian dry and frozen goods for supply to the group’s supermarkets.

Flexibility to work on weekends and public holidays is highly regarded.

**Responsibilities**
- forecasting our short to medium term product needs and liaise with our suppliers to carry out purchasing
- forecasting the optimal quantity to order and negotiating favourable pricing as well as other purchasing conditions
- meeting key suppliers regularly to discuss purchasing strategy
- suggesting pricing changes to the management
- setting delivery schedules and ensuring deliveries arrive on time
- analysing new pricing and new products as well as revisiting existing items
- maintaining and developing product knowledge, including knowledge of new market and manufacturer developments and pricing strategies
- studying product and consumer trends
- monitoring sales information and stock levels in order to stay informed of trends
- keeping the management informed with changing market conditions and designing different buying strategies
- planning and implementing different product and pricing strategies across various outlets depending on the season and the store’s specific target demographics
- managing a small team to design and implement promotional and merchandising displays, including on-site implementation where required.

**Qualifications**

To be considered for the role, you must have the following experience, knowledge and qualifications:

- at least two years of experience in similar roles;
- advanced skills in the Microsoft Office suite;
- fluency in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay;
- strong communication skills;
- experience in handling multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment; and
- strong willingness to learn and improve.

**Salary**: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
