Psychological Trauma Recovery Service's inpatient service, PTRS Ward 17, is a 20 bed unit that services the needs of people requiring more intense treatment and management. Admissions are treatment oriented and targeted towards ameliorating symptoms and impairments associated with trauma
- related mental health problems. Specific interventions may include alcohol and drug detoxification, medication optimisation, physical therapy and activity scheduling. Individual and group-based interventions include art therapy, music therapy, problem solving, relaxation and social skills, as well as access to the Health and Rehabilitation Centre gymnasium and hydrotherapy pool. All admissions to the PTRS Unit are planned admissions. PTRS does not have capacity to admit people who are experiencing a psychiatic emergency.
The primary aim of the Social Worker on Ward 17 is to work with patients and their family carers to provide targeted social work interventions and to facilitate discharge. This includes assessing the consumers’ social environments and relationships, recognising the effects of the psychological, familial, social, economic and cultural determinants on health and wellbeing, advocating for the rights of consumers and their families/carers, assisting consumer flow through coordinating and collaboratively developing discharge plans and post discharge follow up.
The Transition to Mental Health Program is looking for a social worker who has had 2 years experience post qualification in an area that is separate from mental health but will bring a level of skill and knowledge from an appropriate field of practice, such as general health, family violence, counselling, etc
This is a great opportunity, for a dedicated Social Worker to have a big impact on the lives of people experiencing psychological trauma.
As part of the **Transition to Mental Health Practice** program, this position will be supported by a SW Clinical Educator and provided with specific training and guidance around mental health diagnosis, treatment and intervention.
Other supports offered via this program include dedicated professional development time, and dedicated peer support and connection with other SWs as part of the Transition to Mental Health Practice program, locally and across the state.
