Support Worker - Complex Behavioural & Psychosocial Support
Employment Type: Casual/Part-Time (with potential for ongoing shifts, including occasional overnights)
Sector: NDIS Disability Support
About the Role
We are seeking confident, emotionally resilient support workers to provide 1:1 care to a participant living with Borderline Personality Disorder and chronic pain. The participant lives independently in her own home and requires daily in-home support, as well as occasional overnight assistance. This role is ideal for professionals with strong boundaries, trauma-informed experience, and the ability to remain calm and grounded during the rapport-building phase. The participant values her Christian faith and expects respectful, personalised care aligned with her values. The participant enjoys spending time with her beloved small dog, going on outings to the beach and local coffee shops, watching movies, listening to music, and sharing a laugh. She occasionally requires gentle encouragement and support to get out and about, particularly on low-energy or low-mood days, but once out, she enjoys her time fully.
Key Responsibilities
- **Deliver consistent, person-centred support in the participant’s home and community**
- **Provide assistance with maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable home environment**
- **Support the participant in managing symptoms of chronic pain and psychosocial challenges**
- **Respect and support the participant’s Christian beliefs in daily routines**
- **Respond calmly and professionally to emotional distress and behavioural escalation**
- **Use strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills when needed**
- **Encourage independent living skills and promote meaningful engagement**
- **Maintain clear professional and personal boundaries at all times**
- **Complete accurate shift documentation and communicate effectively with management**
- **Provide occasional overnight support as required**
Essential Requirements
- **Proven experience supporting individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder and trauma backgrounds**
- **Strong emotional resilience and self-awareness, particularly during the early stages of building rapport**
- **Confidence in navigating complex behaviours and emotional presentations**
- **Understanding of trauma-informed care and mental health support practices**
- **Ability to support with domestic tasks while encouraging independence**
- **Cert III or higher in Individual Support, Mental Health, or related field**
- **NDIS Worker Screening Check, WWCC, First Aid & CPR**
- **Driver’s licence and reliable vehicle (preferred)**
Desirable Attributes
- **Experience supporting individuals with chronic pain**
- **Formal training in trauma-informed or behavioural support**
- **Ability to respectfully support individuals with strong personal or religious values**
