The Salvation Army is expanding its schools’ engagement endeavours in Queensland. Join our growing national schools’ engagement team and foster meaningful opportunities for young people to engage with social justice and the work of The Salvation Army.

About the Role:
The Salvation Army Australia is seeking to appoint a Schools & Community Engagement Coordinator. Reporting to the Queensland Public Relations Secretary and working alongside the National Schools Engagement Team, you will be required to develop and deliver a range of workshops and resources to schools regarding social justice and the work of The Salvation Army. You will support Salvation Army expressions to better engage with schools and you will develop educational content in relation to our campaigns and areas of our work. This role requires you to foster and manage relationships with QLD educational bodies, predominately primary and secondary schools. Within the role, you will engage with students delivering workshops and nurturing opportunities for engagement in line with the objectives of the broader public relations team. You will also support the Queensland Public Relations Team to plan and implement fundraising events and be involved in our annual Christmas Toy Warehouse.

About you:
You are a skilled facilitator that quickly builds rapport with your audience. You have demonstrable program development experience and knowledge of the school system. You’re a self-starter and are passionate about service learning and social justice. Your exceptional relationship management abilities support you to build and strengthen relationships, all the while maintaining excellent record keeping. You’re a motivated team-player who works collaboratively to support the goals of the broader team.

The successful applicant will possess tertiary qualifications in education, youth work, community development, communications or have significant relevant experience working in these sectors. You will be willing to work in accordance with The Salvation Army’s values and ethos.

Specifically, the incumbent must be able to demonstrate the following:

- Ability to advocate for and positively represent the organisation in forums including public speaking and written communications
- Compelling program development and project management experience
- Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in engaging with young people
- Sound knowledge of social justice challenges
- Capacity to work autonomously and complete administrative tasks effectively
- Experience in event planning and operations (desirable)
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence, National Police check and Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain one)
