The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Technical Officer - Entomology to be part of our South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

The primary purpose of the role is to support entomology research to benefit SA grains industry, and to provide diagnostic and scientific advisory services to Biosecurity SA to support the state's Biosecurity goals and Emergency Management response programs.

The role contributes to delivering the agency's priorities including economic sustainability of primary industries of SA through the development and adoption of improved integrated pest management (IPM) strategies within the grains, horticulture and viticulture industries.

The Technical Officer - Entomology is responsible for providing technical and operational support to research projects on invertebrate pests of Australian crops, focusing on three snail projects: new methods in snail management, calcium and snails, and revegetation for enhance snail biological control. The aim is to ensure the economic sustainability of primary industries of South Australia through the development and adoption of improved integrated pest management (IPM) strategies within the grains, horticulture and viticulture industries. The role is expected to assist the Research Scientist, Entomology in the implementation and reporting of field-based and laboratory experimental work, the maintenance of invertebrate cultures and the communication of relevant technical information to research colleagues. At key times, technical assistance is provided across multiple research teams as required to ensure project outcomes are met.

Special Conditions

  • Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
  • Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
  • Opportunity up to August 2027.
  • Part time, 30 hours a fortnight.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current driver's licence and willingness to drive.
  • Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.
  • The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.

Remuneration

TGO1 - $48,788 min - $70,032 max per annum, plus superannuation adjusted to the number of hours worked
