Family Mental Health Clinician

**Role Purpose and Philosophy**:
The role is suited to a mental health practitioner who has a passion for working with children and families. We welcome applicants with backgrounds in social work, mental health nursing or other relevant disciplines (including clinicians with experience in working with Out-of-home-care children).
The role involves the delivery of family education and provision of supportive counselling to parents of young people with mental illness, utilising a relational approach that is supported by other members of the Relational Minds team.
A willingness to work with families is an essential part of this role. You will be required to assess families and their young person, provide recommendations and follow through with a proactive and responsive level of support. Previous experience working with families is desired and we will provide training and support to develop your skills.
**The role**:
- You will engage families in assessment of their young person’s presenting issues, co-develop a mental health formulation and co-develop a management plan. Your goal is to empower families to support their young person with your guidance and scaffolding.
- You will learn and can utilise our Parenting for Mental Health Program that aims to empower parents to understand the challenges of parenting their young person, learn therapeutic parenting skills and improve their self care.
**Our offering**:
You will be trained in:
- Developing a holistic and integrated formulation of a young person’s presentation and management plan, based on neurobiology and attachment theory principles.
- The basic skills required to relate to and support families using the basic principles of Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy
- The necessary skills to deliver the Foundations for Attachment Program individually and in groups.
- You can obtain support via regular team intake and clinical review meetings, training, clinical supervision and reflective practice supervision.
- Our admin staff will look after your day to day needs.
- We will provide opportunities for education and professional development in the relational and holistic treatment of mental health disorders in children, adolescents and youth.
- We will allow flexible working hours to accommodate you and your family’s needs.
**Key Selection Criteria/ Performance Standards**
- An interest in working with parents and families is essential. No formal family therapy training is necessary but a willingness to learn and openness to relating to families is required.
- Experience and practice in the assessment and treatment of young people and their families with mental illness is desired.
- Experience in the practise of trauma informed therapy approaches is desirable.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a clinical team, match our organisational values and adhere by the team’s communication and conflict resolution standards.
**Essential Requirements**:
- Registration with any relevant regulatory bodies (eg. AHPRA, AASW etc) if applicable
- Undertake a National Criminal Record Check and a Working with Children Check prior to commencing employment. Employees are required to maintain a valid Working with Children’s Check throughout their employment.
Show evidence of current professional indemnity membership.
- Compliance with discipline specific Code of Ethics.
- Demonstrate compliance with discipline specific Continuous Professional Development requirements.
- A current, full drivers licence for the State of Victoria which is appropriate for the type of vehicle being driven, and comply with any restrictions on their licence (e.g. wearing glasses) while undertaking duties (If applicable).
- Relevant referees
There are two positions available in our Sunbury team that can be part time or full time depending on your availability. Working from home some days can be negotiated as appropriate.
