We are inviting expressions of interest from qualified and experienced academic professionals in Hospitality to join our professional, tight-knit team as the Lecturer. The salary for this position is negotiable based on your expertise and experience.
**Position Summary**
The Lecturer will be responsible for delivering both face-to-face teaching of undergraduate courses in hospitality, utilising evidence-based teaching and assessment methods that align with best practices in the field. The Lecturer will play an active role in fostering a dynamic and engaging learning environment by integrating industry-relevant knowledge, emerging trends, and practical case studies into the curriculum. Additionally, the Lecturer will support and mentor colleagues by sharing insights into innovative teaching techniques and hospitality education practices at SCI.
This role involves contributing to curriculum development, designing new modules and course materials, and implementing teaching innovations that enhance student learning experiences. The Lecturer may also undertake research into hospitality pedagogy and industry trends to ensure that SCI’s programs remain current and competitive.
This is a Teaching Specialist position focused on excellence in education and student engagement within the hospitality discipline.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Teaching and Learning**
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, practicals, workshops.
- Contribute to the development of curriculum, new course modules and course material such as:
- Introduction to Hospitality Management
- Hospitality Operation Management
- Contemporary Accommodation Management
- Food & Beverage Management
- Hospitality Marketing
- Managing Customer Experience and Ethical Practice
- Global Trends in Hospitality
- Entrepreneurship and Business Venturing
- Contribute to the development, marking and compilation of assessments, including assignments and examinations.
- Implement current best practice in approaches to teaching and assessment and, be responsive to evidence-based research and feedback on these practices.
- Contribute to teaching innovation at SCI.
**Leadership and Service**
- Contribute to a range of administrative functions, including those connected with teaching.
- Responsibilities and the conduct of the academic affairs of SCI.
- Participate in SCI meetings, seminars and student activities such as Orientation.
- Contribute to SCI committees as determined by SCI Governance Charter.
- Participate in the SCI professional development activities.
- Comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) responsibilities.
**Research and Scholarship**
- Engage in and/or contribute to research and scholarship in Hospitality education.
- May seek funding support for scholarship and academic initiatives promoting innovation in business education.
- May also undertake research student supervision in an area of Hospitality education and SCI or other approved institutions.
**Selection Criteria**
**Essential**
- A doctoral level qualification in Hospitality or similar.
- Knowledge of the ESOS Framework and the National Code 2018. If you do not currently have knowledge of ESOS Framework and the National Code, you must be willing to acquire the required knowledge.
- Proven ability, commitment and passion for engaging in ongoing scholarly activities to inform pedagogical theory and practice.
- Sound knowledge in a field of business that aligns with at least one of SCI’s major areas of study.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the capacity to explain material plainly and helpfully.
- A demonstrated ability in course design and leadership, as appropriate to the relevant discipline.
- Evidence of sustained and significant contributions in leading, lecturing and tutoring; and a commitment to teaching and contributing to undergraduate and/or graduate teaching.
- Ability to improvise and adapt to new demands in course delivery and academic management.
- Excellent organisational skills to coordinate the activities of all academic staff.
- A demonstrated ability to show initiative in both independent and team-based decision making.
