**The Role**
- Upskilling and training the technician workforce on complex workshop equipment: Providing education and training to maintenance personnel to safely and effectively operate and maintain the workshop's equipment.
- Act as a conduit between the engineering design and technical sections: Ensuring that communication is clear and accurate in support of executing fabrication or prototyping tasks.
- Identify engineering or technical constraints, and critical paths, to produce practical solutions in a timely manner: Using your engineering and technical knowledge along with problem-solving skills to match potential issues with viable solutions during the prototyping and fabrication process.
- Be conversant in contemporary workshop machinery and industry fabrication standards: Staying up-to-date on the latest developments and best practices in machining and fabrication.
- Workshop upkeep, maintenance, and operations oversight: Ensuring that the workshop, its equipment, and stock are managed to achieve directed tasks. This is necessarily underpinned by implementing safety protocols, training methods, and associated oversight to meet regulatory and best practice requirements.
**About our Team**
The Aircraft Maintenance and Flight Trials Unit (AMAFTU) is a small team of approximately 25 personnel, including test pilots, aero system specialist observers, flight test engineers, engineers, maintainers of all trades, and civilian support staff.

- Modern mill operations: The ability to safely and effectively operate modern milling machines.
- Modern lathe operations: The ability to safely and effectively operate modern lathes.
- Mill and lathe maintenance: The ability to perform routine maintenance and repairs on milling machines and lathes to ensure that they are kept in good working order.
- Three dimensional printing operations: The ability to safely and effectively operate 3D printers.
- Computer Numeric Control (CNC) operation and programming/post processing applicable to Lathe and Mill, including knowledge of G code and M code.
- Welding (MIG, TIG and Arc) and associated technical specifications and inspections: The ability to perform various welding techniques, including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and Arc welding. This also includes an understanding of technical specifications and inspection procedures related to welding.
- Staff Training and Mentoring: Responsible for training and mentoring staff to support their development in safety practices. This includes delivering training programs and providing guidance to improve technicians’ skills and foster a positive learning culture.
