Since its inception in 1875 Master Builders Victoria, based in East Melbourne, has represented the interests of businesses that operate in the housing, commercial building and engineering construction sectors. As the only peak industry body to represent these three sectors it is widely acknowledged as the preeminent industry association for them. Over its 147-year period, the organisation has grown to become the pre-eminent industry voice, with over 6500 members across the building and construction industry.
**About the Role**
Reporting to the Victorian Board, the CEO has primary responsibility to ensure Master Builders is the leading public policy advocate in Victoria for its diverse member base. The role is extremely broad; it provides strategic leadership whilst managing the complex interests of the industry within a federated association organisational model; it engages with an enormous array of stakeholders (government, industry and internal), it works with member associations to develop shared outcomes and it responds to and develops public policy positions on a range of issues. The strength and depth of relationships established with key stakeholders, both internally and externally, and optimisation of the operational efficiency and resources of the Federation for the benefit of all, along with the ability to influence stakeholders to Master Builders policy position, will be key determinants of success as CEO.
**About You**
An experienced, professionally qualified, Executive with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, strong political awareness yet someone who is apolitical in their operating manner, and unique influencing capability will thrive in this position. Industry knowledge will be an advantage, however strong commercial and financial pragmatism, sound comprehension of the economy and knowledge of the workings of the federal government are key requirements. You must be capable of appropriately influencing and engaging in robust debate on important public policy issues in private and under the media spotlight. A high level of intellectual and emotional intelligence, resilience and tenacity, and a naturally engaging, empathetic person is desired. Prior exposure to working in a member based association, particularly a federated model, will provide you an awareness of its distinctive nuances and benefit you seamlessly integrating into the role.
