**The key responsibilities of this position include**:

- Deliver design and engineering documentation on time and on budget in compliance with the Project Brief
- Establishing and agreeing design, engineering and construction priorities and timing
- Cost control and value optimisation
- Design quality control and change management
- Looking for opportunity and areas to improve to grow Watpac design capability
- To see Design and Engineering Management not just through the lens of the project but as something critical to Watpac’s overall success

**Business Development**
- Assist in marketing the Watpac brand and seeking new project opportunities
- Assist in Client and Consultant relationship management - creation and retention
- Project conversion strategy input

**Work winning - Bid submission**
- Understand and respond to project brief design and engineering requirements and ensure these are clearly communicated to the bid team
- Assist with bid writing, as required
- Review all tender documentation to identify design risks, gaps and opportunities
- Review and comment on Design sections of the contract - risks and opportunities
- Review and comment on Design Consultant scopes and fees
- Validate design status and identify any gaps / omissions and any extra scope required for completion
- Assist with value management and value add strategy - design point of difference / alternatives
- Review Design for fit for purpose, planning, safety in design and engineering, and codes / standards compliance
- Consider the approvals process, procurement and construction methodology in developing the Design program
- Assist with the return belief/ RFIs and participate in post-tender interviews as required

**Project delivery**
- Manage and track the design delivery by working closely with the engineering and construction team to ensure that the emerging documentation meets the required cost budget, procurement and construction programs
- Manage and coordinate the design process to ensure the design and engineering team is disciplined and motivated to perform at their highest level to achieve the best project outcomes
- Coordinate the discharge of Planning Permit conditions and ensure Building Permits are obtained when required
- Take responsibility for Design Consultant’s and Engineering performance by ensuring they understand their responsibilities and accountabilities on the project and the deliverables expected of them
- Support the formulation of ESD and Safety in Design initiatives and monitor deliverables
- Progressively monitor the production of workshop drawings and coordination between the various design disciplines (consultants, engineers and subcontractors alike)
- Develop and maintain professional and productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders (clients, consultants, subcontractors)
- Assist stakeholders with strategies and investigation of project opportunities
- Represent Watpac in a professional and ethical manner.

**Qualifications**:
**The incumbent in this role will require the following qualifications and experience**:

- Degree in a relevant discipline together with solid experience in Design Management
- Ability to communicate, influence and build effective relationships at all levels of the external and internal business environment
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills
- Demonstrated effective leadership skills through development of productive relationships with colleagues and team members
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high pressure environment
- Proven high level of professionalism, maturity and candour in daily work ethic
