**About the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations**
We are committed to empowering futures, ensuring rights and enriching lives. We support people to have safe, secure and well-paid work with the skills for a sustainable future as we ourselves strive to be a model employer.
We provide the framework for fair and productive relationships between employers and employees. We also oversee skills development and training initiatives to support those entering the workforce or re-training to take advantage of emerging employment opportunities.
With us, your work directly contributes to shaping the employment landscape. Whether you are engaging in policy development, program implementation, or direct support services, your efforts will have a tangible impact on job seekers, employees and the economy by giving them a framework to build a future anchored and realised through employment.
It is our ambition to do things differently, to create the ‘department of great jobs’- where our people reflect our purpose.
**The Role**
As part of the Fair Entitlements Guarantee (FEG) Branch you will work in a high demand service environment assessing claims for financial assistance made by employees who are owed employment entitlements after losing their jobs due to insolvency.
Reporting to the Senior Claim Assessor, the APS Level 5 Claim Assessor is responsible for managing claim holdings and assessing claims, which will require you to undertake mathematical calculations to determine the amount of an employee’s advance in accordance with the Fair Entitlements Guarantee (FEG) Act, Fair Work Act and various other supporting legislations or Governing instruments.
Our people find a high level of job satisfaction by working in the FEG program as it has a direct positive impact for Australians at a difficult time in their lives.
We are committed to investing in our people to grow their capability in FEG program management, including supporting them to develop a strong knowledge and understanding of the Workplace Relations framework. This experience provides a sound basis for further advancement in APS roles.
We support flexible working arrangements that work for the individual and the FEG program.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
Responsibilities of the APS Level 5 Claim Assessor may include:
- Assessing claims where you will interact directly with the Australian public and work closely with insolvency practitioners managing the affairs of insolvent employers.
- Managing your workload proactively and strategically to ensure multiple claims across multiple cases are concurrently progressed and ready for decision within the relevant claim stages and targeted timeframes.
- Analysing information and make recommendations to a decision maker that comply with the requirements of the Fair Entitlements Guarantee Act 2012 (FEG Act) to ensure timely and accurate payments to claimants.
- Producing high quality written reports, letters and documents which are succinct, complete and effectively explain the rationale for the recommended outcome.
- With the assistance of your supervisors, work through obstacles and escalate claims where appropriate.
**How to Apply**
Applicants are required to provide a summary (no more than 500 words) that outlines skills, knowledge, and experience and why you should be considered for this vacancy. You should take into consideration the position overview (including any detailed position specific requirements) when drafting your response. Where possible include specific relevant examples of your work.
The APS work level standards accommodate the diversity of roles across the APS and are structured to clearly differentiate between the work expected (i.e. responsibilities and duties) at each classification level.
In the eRecruit (the department’s online recruitment system) you will also need to:
- upload a Curriculum Vitae
- provide contact details for 2 Referees.
**Eligibility**
**Don’t meet all the role requirements?**
