In seeking to fulfil its mandate, APRA seeks experienced professionals from the insurance industry to join its supervision teams within the Insurance Division. The Insurance Division is responsible for providing prudential regulation and oversight for general, life and private health insurers within Australia.

The ability to engage and influence a broad range of stakeholders, including at Executive and Board level, to understand key industry strategic issues and contribute to the formulation and execution of APRA’s supervision strategy of the industry are attributes we are seeking, along with the energy and passion to make a positive difference to the industry and broader Australian community.

To be successful in the role, you will need to
- Assess the quality of a regulated institution’s management, the risks arising from its business strategy, the strength of its governance and risk management frameworks as well as the entity’s overall financial resilience. Demonstrate flexibility by adapting the depth and focus of these assessments to suit the institution’s complexity.
- Identify industry trends that may lead to issues for regulated institutions and formulate strategies to address these concerns.
- Collaborate with other professionals in the team to determine appropriate supervisory strategy for the institution. Play a lead role in planning and actioning that strategy.
- Interact with the institutions within your area of supervisory responsibility to build working relationships with key stakeholders, to allow you to understand and influence the institutions to achieve appropriate prudential outcomes.
- Collaborate with risk specialists across APRA to develop a deeper understanding of specific risks and issues in a particular industry.
