QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government. It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.
**About the role**:
As a Principal Workplace Health and Safety Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in supporting QBuild's mission to strengthen Queensland's building and construction industry. Your expertise will provide critical WHS advice, services, and assistance across a diverse range of activities and technical matters in the building, construction, and maintenance sectors.
Collaborating with a varied team of field and office staff, you will assist in the implementation and monitoring of operational WHS and Environmental (WHS&E) protocols. In this leadership position, you will guide and mentor the WHS team within your region or zone, ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance are maintained.
**Duties and skills involved**:
- Coordinate WHS training and information sessions, including liaison with external providers and maintaining the regional WHS training register.
- Provide WHS&E advice and support to department staff regarding QBuild Safety Management System processes, legislative compliance, and new technologies.
- Manage team to conduct WHS&E audits and inspections for work compliance, covering both QBuild and contractor projects.
- Lead incident and hazard investigations, producing required reports and educating QBuild staff on reporting procedures.
- Ensure completion of emergency planning and response activities in offices and depots.
- Develop and implement WHS management systems, including SMSs, risk assessments, and management plans, as needed for the region.
**Additional requirements**:
- Travel within the South West Queensland region and to Brisbane is required.
- Experience in workplace health and safety within the construction, maintenance or similar industry and Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety, is highly desirable.
