Challenge Pumps (Challenge Pumps Pty Ltd) is a trusted name in the industry, delivering top-notch dewatering pumps, spare parts and exceptional service to the Australian and overseas mining market. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced assembly fitter to join our team.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Actively participate in pre-start safety assessments and discussions of assembly and repair jobs with particular emphasis on the risk profile of each task for safety & quality viewpoint.
- Critically interpret engineering drawings and general assembly plans in order to efficiently carry out operations. Skills in identifying errors or non-conforming steps in order to prevent delays or errors in the assembly process.
- Prepare all parts for assembly, including initial machining, cutting, grinding, cleaning & painting.
- Assembling pump parts into full systems with the aid of appropriate tools and lifting equipment in an accurate and timely manner, including groundwork and restricted space operations.
- Reviewing assembly of pump systems for compliance with quality standards, including torque tolerances, valve inspection, and bearing fit, within specifications for verticality and load distribution using measurement tools and jigs.
- Troubleshoot assembly errors and problems at the facility and record findings to allow for continuous improvement.
- Safely strip down service exchange pumps and assess for damage & degradation to a sufficient level to allow the sales team to quote the client the cost and time required for servicing.
- Reassemble the service exchange system while paying particular attention to used and replacement parts consumed.
- Operate in a clean fashion ensuring squaring away of tools and equipment and disposing of scrapped parts at day/job end in keeping with established safety and quality protocols.
- Safely lift, transport, load, and strap down systems for dispatch using overhead cranes & forklifts.
- Participate in design improvement meetings with the engineering team to raise the performance and life cycle of dewatering equipment.
- Mentor the trades assistants and assist in inducting into the organisation.
- Participate in weekly toolbox meetings to ensure safe, timely, and sustainable construction of dewatering systems and associated equipment.
**Requirements for the role**:
- Cert/Diploma or higher qualification in Fitting/Mechanical Engineering.
- Proven experience as a fitter in similar fields.
- Experience in assembly work related to helical rotor pump systems assembly is preferred.
- Physically capable of sustained groundwork, working at heights and in confined spaces throughout the rostered shift.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Experience in handling and using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards.
- Pass a pre-employment medical.
- Current forklift licence.
