The School of Humanities and Languages is seeking a Lecturer (Level B) - Education Focused to join the Environment and Society Group. The Environment and Society Group administers the Master of Environmental Management (MEM), a program focused on innovative teaching that critically and creatively engages the sociocultural and structural causes of, and responses to, today’s environmental challenges and prepares graduates to think in transformative ways to become restorative leaders, change-agents, and advocates at local and global scales. Adopting similar approaches, the Environment and Society Group also administers the undergraduate majors in Environmental Humanities, Geographical Studies, and International Studies.
In this position you will teach into the program and majors administered by the Group.
The role of Lecturer - Education Focused reports to Head of School and has no direct reports.
**Accountabilities**
Specific accountabilities for this role include (but are not limited to):
- Demonstrate a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning in fields of environmental management, environmental studies/humanities, geographical studies (human geography) and international studies.
- Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in line with UNSW policy and with guidance of more senior academics
- Design and develop learning activities and resources, and assessment and feedback using a range of appropriate approaches and learning environments with the support of more senior academics
- Contribute to the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning led by more senior academics
- Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students.
***Who You Are**:
Skills and Experience required (but not limited to):
- A PhD (awarded or at submission) in human geography or a related environment and society discipline. Relevant work experience is also valued.
- Actively stays up to date with environmental studies and/or human geography discipline knowledge and developments
- Demonstrated experience in and passion for teaching and learning design, development and delivery relevant to teaching in the Master of Environmental Management Program, and undergraduate majors in geographical studies (human geography), environmental humanities, and international studies
- Knowledge of educational technologies and online delivery methods
- A strong commitment to work-integrated learning (desirable)
- Experience engaging students and fostering independent learning through meaningful assessment and helpful feedback.
