Who are we?
Community Work and Partnerships is one of four service delivery streams within Community Correctional Services (CCS). We are responsible for the development of mutually beneficial partnerships with government agencies and non-government organisations so that offenders can undertake unpaid work as part of their community-based sentence imposed by the Courts of Victoria. Community work serves as a valuable way for offenders to pay back the community while also reconnecting and reintegrating into the community.
What does a Field Officer do?
Your primary responsibility as a Field Officer will be to supervise a team of offenders at community work sites and other community work programs. As a key role model in your work, you will represent the Department in a professional and ethical manner at all times and promote the rehabilitative benefits of community work programs to offenders to enhance community safety.
The Loddon Mallee region run a number of programs designed to benefit the local community while at the same time helping offenders to gain necessary life skills to become productive members of society so no 2 days will be the same. Working as part of the team this could be carpentry work, cleaning, creating garden beds for local parks and schools etc.
The ideal person for this role will be someone able to build rapport easily with others, have a passion for teaching and mentoring and able to work effectively as part of a team.
**To be successful in becoming a Field Officer, you will**:
- Have supervisory experience and demonstrated capability in setting work tasks.
- Be able to communicate and demonstrate a range of tasks and ensure a safe environment for offender work teams.
- Have experience towing a trailer and be able to transport offenders and equipment in a mini-bus to and from community work sites.
- Quickly build rapport in order to understand the motivations of others, identify issues and suggest courses of action appropriate to their needs.
- Have demonstrated ability to manage conflict and strong problem-solving skills.
- Model appropriate behaviours and attitudes to assist offenders to develop new skills and work practices.
**Qualifications**:
You do not need to be experienced in working with the offender population, however if you have skills in construction, warehouse Food Distribution, landscaping, mechanical skills or experience in project/business support we would love to hear from you.
A full and current drivers' licence is essential.
Please note that Field Officers are required to complete and pass a health assessment as part of the recruitment process.

At the Department of Justice and Community Safety, we provide every person with the means to achieve their potential through ongoing learning and development opportunities in a diverse, equitable and supportive environment.
