**About the role**

At Cancer Council Queensland, we are engaged in a collaborative research program dedicated to cancer control. Our focus encompasses comprehending cancer risk, ensuring early cancer detection, enhancing cancer survivorship, and diminishing disparities in cancer outcomes through population cancer surveillance.

The Viertel Cancer Research Centre, a versatile research facility, excels in four key areas: cancer epidemiology, childhood cancer research, health services, and behavioural research. Our commitment lies in identifying and addressing challenges associated with social and geographic inequities in cancer-related outcomes. The Australian Cancer Atlas, an ongoing collaborative project, has played a pivotal role in our understanding of the geographic variations in cancer incidence across Australia.

Our research team comprises some of Australia's brightest minds, working on projects with tangible outcomes for the benefit of all Queenslanders.

The Research Officer (Epidemiology) position is part of the Descriptive Epidemiology research team. The role involves conducting research to better comprehend and interpret spatial patterns and associations within the Australian Cancer Atlas, utilising appropriate statistical and epidemiological methods.

Ideally suited for a recent postdoctoral graduate, this role offers substantial opportunities for applied statistical analyses and the chance to be a lead author on peer-reviewed manuscripts.

This position is a Fixed-Term (2 years), Full-time (37.5 hours/week).

**About you**

To be successful in this role you will conduct statistical analyses under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Descriptive Epidemiology, to investigate epidemiological associations with cancer indicators, and better understanding the characteristics of the spatial patterns observed through the Australian Cancer Atlas. This will include a strong focus on spatial analysis methods.

You will also contribute to and/or lead the writing of scientific manuscripts describing the purpose and methods of these statistical analyses and describe the implications of the results.

**Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills**

You will need a PhD, ideally in health research with some experience in cancer epidemiology.

**Essential Skills**
- Demonstrated written communication skills, including experience writing peer-reviewed journal articles as lead author.
- Demonstrated understanding of epidemiological principles.
- Demonstrated skills in statistical software programming within Stata and/or R and data management skills.
