**About us**
Corrections and Justice Services is committed to the delivery of responsive and culturally appropriate services that meet the objectives of the Aboriginal Justice Agreements to reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people within the Criminal Justice System through the provision of correctional supports and services that reduce the risk of reoffending.
**About the role**
The Aboriginal Court Assessment & Prosecutions Service (CAPS) Officer position provides a dual specialist function in CCS service provision at the Courts. As a CAPS Officer the position is responsible for supporting the operation of the Court Assessment and Prosecutions Service (CAPS), including providing high quality evidence-based advice to the Koori Court division of the Magistrates' and County Courts to assist in the sentencing process. Aboriginal CAPS Officers will also be required to work within mainstream court divisions of the Magistrates' and County Courts when the Koori Court division is not sitting.
The position may also provide support to Aboriginal participants involved in the Melbourne Drug Court. This includes suitability assessment for Drug and Alcohol Treatment Orders (DATO) and provision of case management support to Aboriginal program participants.
You will be required to adhere to local or regional rostering arrangements and other staffing management practices as directed.
**To be successful in this role, you will have**:
- A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it.
- A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake assessments with complex individuals
- Understanding of best approaches to support the needs of people who are in contact with the criminal justice systems
- Understanding of case management
- Experience and/or knowledge of court processes, prosecutions or related areas (desirable).
